Miller School / UPSM Elementary School
Project Location: Detroit, MI
From boarded-up to an amazing space, SCW564 and SCW2500 series windows provided the accuracy required to meet historic tax credit compliance, but also deliver modern thermal and energy efficiency performance.
Window trim and color matching were key factors in meeting historic requirements. The exterior trim and frame on the double-hung windows are “mega greige”, while the sash and all exposed surfaces of the simulated sash openings are “tricorn black” which is also the color for the interior side of the frames.
Since opening its doors in August 2013, the former historic Miller High School now serves as the University Prep Science & Math School focusing on a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) curriculum.
“I think revitalizing compared to building new . . . it takes away the eyesore from the community, it shows the community the un-imaginable . . . that the impossible is possible.”
– Elaina Holsey, director of operations, University Prep Science & Math Elementary School, Detroiturbex interview
